LIVE: Search with a fingertip for a crime scene after an explosion and find a “viable device”

The crime scene took place on a street in Bolton after the explosion. Police and a bomb squad were called to report a “small explosion” in Longcove, Farnworth, at about 10:10 p.m. Sunday (May 1st).

The Army for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) was present and discovered a “viable” device, which it then made safe. Police have not yet revealed the nature of the device. No one was arrested or injured, police said.

The back street near Longcosway remains sealed this afternoon, more than 12 hours after the blast. Photos from the scene show that tactical aid officers are conducting fingertips searches in the breakaway zone.
