a teenager who drove a stolen car the wrong way through the Blackwall Tunnel and then caused a head-on collision has been sentenced to four years in prison.

18-year-old Johal Ratour from Grace, Essex, caused the crash in the early hours of August 6 last year and fled the scene.

The Blackwall Tunnel also had to be closed for more than two hours during rush hour traffic, resulting in a total loss of £ 585,000 in Transport for London revenue.

Rathur fled the scene, but was arrested shortly after police identified him and traced his cell phone.

Rathur did not appear in court after being charged with the crimes. He was subsequently tracked down and arrested by RTPC officials in January this year.

Police Officer Adam Lamb, the investigating officer in the case, said: “Ratur was guilty of incredibly dangerous driving and it was a miracle that no one was seriously injured.

Johal Ratour has been in prison for four years.

“Watching the video of him driving the wrong way through the tunnel is very disturbing, as it seems inevitable that a fatal collision will occur.

“Apart from the damage to the stolen vehicle and the van he collided with, Rathur also disrupted and delayed the travel of thousands of people using the Blackwell Tunnel on the day of the crash.

“I am glad that he is facing justice for his actions and will not be able to drive on the roads of London for many years.
