“We will look at everything related to interfering in the 2020 election,” Fulton County Attorney Fanny Willis said in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Monday. “I have allowed this to be wide-ranging, not just the (former) president’s phone call you made there, but other things that show that there may have been interference in this election, including fake electorate.”
Willis added: “This is of interest to my office.”
Federal prosecutors are also investigating a scheme in which the Allies created fake certificates announcing Trump’s victory in a handful of states and sent them to the National Archives.
“I do not plan to coordinate specifically with the Department of Justice,” Willis said. “What will be their investigation is obviously electoral fraud, which may have happened everywhere in this great country. Mine is much less – a big investigation, but much less. I’m just looking at electoral interference in the state of Georgia, and in particular, the things they asked about this call that happened in my county, Fulton County. “
A special grand jury was placed in the Willis investigation on Monday. She declined to give the names of witnesses she intends to call to testify, but said more than 50 people refused to speak to her investigators voluntarily. “So what we plan to do is start handing them summonses,” Willis said.
She also said she had kept in touch with Trump’s lawyers about her investigation.
“I spoke to them recently and I expect to have additional talks in the next few days,” she said.
Hours after the grand jury was selected under heightened scrutiny, Willis provided more details about the racist reaction he encountered as he watched Trump’s investigation.
“I can tell you that in recent days I have often appeared on white supremacy pages with my face and many humiliating names,” Willis said. “Such things are a major security concern that should protect us.”
