Some residents living near Lansdowne Park say the proposal for further redevelopment, called Lansdowne 2.0, is moving too fast and they want more time to review the plan.
Metropolitan Department Count. Sean Menard held a public meeting Monday night on plans unveiled last week by the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG). The city has not yet held a public consultation on the recently announced plans, but Menard wanted to hear from his constituents.
“We need to push the pause button on the Lansdowne 2.0 proposal,” said Alexandra Gruka-Macaulay, who attended Monday’s meeting.
“So that all Ottawa residents who haven’t had a chance to read the proposal over the weekend can understand and appreciate the impact the proposal will have on them.”
The proposed transformation of the park will include a new arena and newly built grandstands on the north side, plus 1,200 housing units – and will cost approximately $ 330 million.
Councilors will discuss the plan with the city’s Finance and Economic Development Committee on Friday, where they will be asked to approve $ 8 million in funding to draw up a detailed plan and consult widely on the proposal. This will also allow employees to seek air rights offers.

If implemented, Lansdowne’s new proposal will go to the full city council in late May, although the final decision on the project will not be made until the council’s next term.
“I hope that some of the advisers in [the committee] will make a proposal to simply delay the train, “said Anthony Caricato, a member of the Glebe Community Association, who is also a commissioner for civil transit.
“You had nine months again. We had less than nine days.”
Menard wants all important decisions to be made after the October elections
Ten percent of the 1,200 new housing units will be affordable, OSEG said. According to the city authorities, what is available is defined – in this context – as 80 percent of the market rate for the whole city.

Menard made it clear that he believes the council should postpone all important decisions until after the autumn municipal elections.
Although the councilor likes some aspects of the proposal, he sees problems with how these buildings should be “tax neutral”, calling it a misrepresentation. OSEG CEO Mark Goody called the proposal “a proposal and a proposal for self-financing”.
