The IIO is investigating Vernon’s death

BC’s independent police oversight body also shared information about Vernon’s death, which it is investigating.
The Office of Independent Investigations says the information provided by the Vernon RCMP states that “around 7:25 a.m. on April 25, police visited a home to transport a man to a hospital …”
“The man was taken to hospital without incident, but was treated shortly after his arrival. The man was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.”
The IIO was informed of the death shortly after it occurred and launched an investigation to determine what role, if any, police or inaction may have played in the death.

BC’s independent police oversight body is investigating a death involving the Vernon RCMP.
Although details of the incident are few, the Office of Independent Investigations confirms that the death occurred on April 25.
IIO spokeswoman Rebecca Whelan said the death did not occur in Vernon’s cells, but the investigation involved Vernon’s squad.
There were no details other than to say that the investigation was “open and ongoing”.
Vernon RCMP could not provide details and comment to the IIO.
The British Columbia Independent Investigation Service is headed by a civilian police oversight agency responsible for investigating incidents of death or serious injury that may have resulted from the actions or inaction of a police officer, whether on or off the scene.
