The driver of the van avoids being beheaded moments before a massive accident

The driver had two “miraculous escapes” after a wooden board nearly decapitated him when he smashed his windshield – moments before his van was destroyed by a truck.

Photos from the scene show the dark gray Ford Transit Custom van involved completely crushed after colliding with a truck on a holiday Monday (May 2nd).

Ambulance services said it was “remarkable that no one was killed”.

During the crash on the A50 between Blythe Bridge and Uttoxter in Staffordshire, the truck overturned. The drivers of both vehicles are fortunately only with minor injuries.

Rescue crews, including two ambulances, two paramedics and a Midland Air ambulance, rushed to the crash site.

A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Crews arrived to find a truck on the side of an embankment and a van that suffered significant damage in the collision, including a piece of wood through the windshield.

“The driver of the van, a man who miraculously got out of his car and sat on the side of the road. He was assessed by the ambulance team and was found to have injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

“He was treated on the spot before being transported by ambulance to Royal Stoke University Hospital. The driver of the truck, a man, also got out of his overturned vehicle and was assessed on the spot by ambulance staff.

“He received no visible serious injuries, but was transported to the same hospital for further checks due to the serious nature of the collision. Given the dramatic scene and the significant damage, it was remarkable that no one was killed.
