Thursday, May 5, 2022, 11:18 am – The wettest period of time in British Columbia for a long time will bring almost a month of rain to the coast this week.
We are in the midst of extremely humid weather in southern British Columbia. It may rain for a month over the south coast this week. The forecast for this week contains some particularly good news for the interior, where they could see more rain this week than they have seen in the last 60 days, and also give some hope for the degree of fire danger as we approach the official start in the summer. More on dried rains and what to expect this week, below.

SOUTH COAST: THIS WEEK IS POSSIBLE RAIN FOR A MONTH
Several rain waves are on their way to British Columbia this week as many Pacific lowlands move toward the West Coast.
Until this weekend, some places along the South Coast can see close to their average monthly rainfall for the whole of May, and this is only the first week of the month.
The first rain wave intensified for the lower continent and the southern island of Vancouver on Wednesday night as the front moved into the region. Rainfall will continue for most of Thursday.
A second system, approaching from the south, will arrive on Friday afternoon and continue to the Fraser Valley until Saturday.
Vancouver typically receives about 65mm of rainfall on average in May, and the city could approach that total by the weekend. About 50 mm of rain is expected in the city this week alone.
Until this weekend, widespread total rainfall of 40-80 mm in the lower part of the continent is possible, and at the local level higher amounts are possible at higher altitudes. Meanwhile, more than 100 mm of rain is possible in the northwestern part of Vancouver Island by the end of the week.
Heavy snow with frost levels of 1300-1700 meters is expected for the alpine regions. On some of the mountain peaks can fall 30-60 cm of snow during the weekend, which is an impressive amount for this time of year. The mountain passes will also have to be alert for snowfall.
