Boris Johnson is “out of touch” because of the cost of living crisis, says Keir Starmer
Votes are being counted overnight in local elections in the United Kingdom, with the Tories preparing for the loss of some key council seats.
But with the results coming in after midnight, Labor was the one to lose the first major change of control on Friday morning, losing to the Liberal Democrats.
Significant Conservative losses are expected to follow – Wandsworth, who has controlled the Conservatives for more than 40 years, is among the London boroughs expected to fall to Labor.
The losses prompted conservative local leaders to call on Boris Johnson to “look good and strong in the mirror.”
Outside of London, it seems like a good night for the Liberal Democrats. After their victory at Hull, Baroness Kramer said it was “a community that has, in a sense, been taken for granted openly by both Labor and the Conservatives”.
Meanwhile, Labor has taken control of Cumberland’s newly formed council, a strong result in an area with three Conservative MPs.

Labor needs “real clarity” of national policy
Salford Labor Mayor Paul Dennett said his party needed “real clarity on what national policy is to enable us to reinforce what we are trying to do at the local level”.
“Disappointed” after Labor lost three seats in the city council election, he said: “What we need to do is learn from residents and communities what problems and concerns they have.
We take all elections really seriously in Salford and do not rely entirely on what the national party does or does not do, but it would be useful to have real clarity about what national policy is to enable us to strengthen what we are trying to do. to do it locally.
Paul Dennett
“A lot is happening, we have years and years of austerity and we are facing a crisis in the cost of living.
“When we knock on the door, we see that people are really disappointed in the political system at the moment.

Local Conservative insists on removing Johnson, raising “integrity issue”
Carlisle City Council Conservative leader John Malinson said the prime minister should leave after the defeat in Cumberland.
He told the BBC that he had “lost some very good colleagues” in the Cumberland elections, and that it was “difficult to bring the debate back to local issues” while campaigning over Partygate and the cost of living crisis.
“I don’t think it helped to get comments from people like George Justice talking about people using value brands to ease their shopping bills. It just seems to be very patronizing, “he said.
I don’t think it’s just Partygate, there is a problem with integrity. In general, I just don’t feel that people already have the confidence that they can count on the prime minister to tell the truth.
John Malinson
Asked if he thought the Conservative MPs should remove the prime minister, Mr Malinson said: “That would be my preference, yes.”

Local conservatives ask prime minister to “look good and strong in the mirror”
A local Tory called on Boris Johnson to “look good and strong in the mirror” amid the loss of council seats in his area.
Portsmouth City Council Conservative leader Simon Bosher told the BBC: “I have to say that the results are extremely disappointing, not entirely unexpected, I must say. In fact, we lost some very good working councilors tonight.
“Personally, I think the Westminster government really needs to look in the mirror, because the regular members they rely on are actually losing their seats tonight, and it’s pretty disappointing overall. ”
I think Boris also needs to look well and strongly in the mirror, because I think he needs to look at those people we lost tonight … because these are people who actually carry the burden of the threshold of behavior for what is being takes place in Westminster

Baroness Kramer is “delighted” by Lib Dem’s victory in Hull
Liberal Democratic colleague Baroness Kramer said she was “obviously pleased” that her party had taken control of Hull’s council.
Lady Kramer told Sky News that the party had “high hopes for Hull”.
She said: “This is a community that is, in a sense, openly taken for granted by both Labor and the Conservatives.
Lib Dem’s peer said “major significant local problems” such as the number of GPs on the ground are on the doorstep, as well as the cost of living and the partisan.
This is not just a party, this is all it stands for, this kind of overall sense of government in moral collapse.
