It is Friday, May 6, and the results of local elections across the country are invading. After a torturous night for the Tories nationwide, all eyes on the West Midlands are on Birmingham when the census finally begins and the results come in.
The results are expected to be announced on Friday afternoon and possibly even by evening. This is the first election since the end of most restrictions on Covid and the first since numerous scandals, including a “partygate”, hit Westminster.
So far, this has been a rough result for the Conservatives, who lost two leading Tory councils – Wandsworth and Westminster – to Labor. The Tories also lost more than 100 seats nationwide.

Sadiq Khan said Labor’s success in the London election showed the benefits of a “trusted” party leader and that the public was “fed up” with Boris Johnson. The mayor of London told the PA news agency in Westminster, central London: “Well, this is a combination of things, for the first time in a long time we have a trusted national leader in Cair.
