It is fair to compare Sir Keir Starmer’s beer and the “partisan”, says Sadiq Khan

Mr Hahn’s intervention came when Labor figures questioned Sir Cair’s attitude to the story, citing the fact that a spokesman had initially told reporters in the Daily Mail that Angela Raynor, Sir Cair’s deputy, had not been to the event before later admitting she was.

A Labor MP from the back told The Telegraph: “I don’t think he broke the rules, but I think it was a pretty bad decision. If he had come out in front and said we were working, we stayed up late and didn’t break the rules, it wouldn’t be so bad.

“Why don’t we say Angela is there?” Why not in front? I think that makes him look a lot worse than he is. We’re just disappointed with the way he did it. “

In an interview Wednesday, the Labor leader failed to answer a question about whether he had been contacted by Durham police about the incident following calls to reopen the investigation.

Richard Holden, a local Conservative MP, said police should re-investigate Sir Care in light of recent revelations about how many employees were at the event and that it took place late in the evening.

Speaking of Good Morning Britain on ITV, Sir Cair said: “I had a team with me. We worked in the office. No breaking the rules, no party.

“This relentless focus on mud instead of the Conservative problem means that they have no answer to the real question that so many people want answered, namely, ‘What are you going to do to help me with my bills?’ “”

Earlier this week, Sir Peter Fahi, the former Greater Manchester Police Chief, joined calls for the police to reopen their investigation, saying: “I think they should probably just look at the new information and reconsider their situation.”

Durham police said they were “considering” the recent reports they had received about the incident and would respond publicly “in a timely manner”.
