The census is under way as Wales elects more than a thousand council seats in 22 local governments.
Voters went to the polls on Thursday (May 5th) to mark the “X” next to their chosen candidates.
Polling stations closed at 10pm on Thursday, and the countdown in Wales began at 9am on Friday.
This will be the first election to a council in Wales in which 16 and 17-year-olds are allowed to vote, plus it is shaking the boundaries of constituencies.
There are a total of 1,160 seats that can be taken, but 72 were already occupied by default before election day, as they were not contested.
Labor is defending a slim majority in Cardiff, while Flintshire is a test of Tory popularity in an area where they performed well in the 2019 general election.
Welsh conservatives are prepared for a difficult time. A Conservative source said: “It seems that Monmouthshire may be our only saving grace in Wales.”
Will Plaid Cymru hold on or break through? Can Democrats revive their wealth from a very low base? In 2017, the Independents were the second largest “group” – will it be the same in 2022?
Stay tuned while we provide you with live updates on all the results and reactions where you live.
