Greater Sudbury Police say death at work occurred in Levak on Friday

The Greater Sudbury Police Department (GSPS) said it was investigating a death at work in the city. The GSPS said it responded on Friday at around 2.50pm in a salt and sand winter yard located on Municipal Road 8 in Levak, where a 40-year-old man was found dead. The police press release did not disclose whether the person was an employee of the salt and sand yard or any of the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The police did not reveal the name of the employer. It is not reported what the person was doing at the time, whether alone or with others. Police said the death was being investigated by the GSPS Criminal Investigation Department, along with the Coroner’s Office and the Ontario Department of Labor. Police said it was standard procedure after a death in the workplace. The GSPS said a post-mortem examination would be conducted to determine the cause of death. The police said that out of respect for the family, the name of the deceased will not be announced at the moment. In Ontario, when a worker dies at work, a coroner’s investigation is mandatory.
