Buckingham Palace officials plan to block Harry and Megan’s cameras on Netflix when they return to the UK for events dedicated to the Queen’s platinum anniversary.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex flew from California to join the monarch in celebrating 70 years on the throne, although they were forbidden to go out on the balcony of the palace for the Trooping the Color ceremony.

However, the couple is expected to play an important role, and some royal aides are worried about the prospect of tension among the family if a film crew appears.

A well-informed source told the Sun: “Even if they accept that their Netflix team can’t go to Buckingham Palace to film, they could cause problems – and at least cause a lot of distraction.

“Senior courtiers believe Netflix will see it as a great opportunity to take advantage of its mega-million deal with the couple.

“So a team of Palace assistants will be on hand to monitor the crew very closely and act as a guard if necessary.”

This comes as Netflix bosses are said to be annoyed by the couple’s decision to bomb interviews on rival television networks – even though there is a multi-million dollar deal with the streaming giant.

Mail on Sunday learned that there was a “real sense of annoyance” when Prince Harry revealed details of his meeting with the Queen at Windsor Castle last month in an interview with NBC.

Netflix bosses are said to be annoyed by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to bomb bombing rival television networks – even though they have a multi-million dollar deal with the streaming giant.

According to a source, this frustration has intensified as a Netflix film crew watched Harry At Invictus at the time, a documentary about his event about wounded and wounded employees and veterans.

“Netflix would be happy to hear the first comments about the Queen’s visit to the documentary,” said an insider. “There was a real sense of annoyance that they were handed over to another TV operator.”

In an interview with NBC’s Today program on April 20, the duke raised his eyebrows, saying, “I’m just making sure she’s protected and has the right people around her.”

In March last year – a month after announcing their deal with Netflix – Harry and Megan gave their highly controversial interview to Oprah Winfrey, which was broadcast on CBS.

An industry expert said: “Netflix pays them millions and they give their best interviews to other networks. Do they expect Netflix to be happy about that? ‘

The streaming giant announced last week that it was postponing Pearl, Megan’s planned animated television series for a 12-year-old girl inspired by famous female figures in history.

Netflix is looking to cut costs after losing more than 200,000 customers in the three months to March, and its share price fell from $ 700 (£ 567) a year ago to less than $ 200 (£ 162).

“Harry and Megan’s list [of projects] they may be in danger as they have announced plans to make shows that are educational and inspiring, not sexy and sensational, “said the industry source.

“The pressure will be on them to come up with a hit.” Sussex’s deal with Netflix, through their company Archewell Productions, is reported to be worth up to £ 81 million, but many believe the amount is exaggerated.

The couple, who retired from royal life in March 2020, also have a contract with streaming giant Spotify.

A Netflix spokesman declined to comment last night, saying: “Archewell Productions remains a valuable partner and we continue to work together on a number of projects.”
