Three American tourists have died in a Bahamas resort after falling ill, Atlantic Island officials have confirmed, and another has been flown to hospital for treatment.
Acting Prime Minister Chester Cooper issued a statement Friday saying police were investigating and the cause of death was unknown, although “no” suspected misconduct.
Their identities were not initially made public, but the Royal Bahamas Police issued a statement saying they were investigating the deaths of two men and a woman.

Health Minister Dr Michael Darville told Eyewitness News Bahamas on Saturday that some hotel guests went to a clinic on Thursday with nausea and vomiting, were treated and left. Three were later found dead. A fourth man was flown to a hospital in New Providence.
He said environmental health scientists, doctors and others are investigating to ensure there is no danger to public health.
“We feel that what we are seeing is an isolated case linked to a specific area,” he said, adding that investigators were conducting toxicological and blood tests to help determine the cause of the disease.
Cooper replaced Prime Minister Philip E. Davis, who was out of the country.
The head of communications in the Prime Minister’s Office, Latrae L. Raming, tweeted that the death occurred in Sandali Emerald Bay in Exuma.
In a statement to People magazine, a Sandals spokesman confirmed the death and said the company was “working actively to support both the investigation and the families of the guests in every way possible”.
“With deep sadness we can confirm the death of three guests at the Emerald Bay Resort on May 6, 2022,” Sandals said in a statement received from Our News Bahamas.
Bahamas News Now tweeted a video of a plane said to be transporting an American woman to Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau.
There was no immediate further response to an Associated Press inquiry from the hotel company on Saturday.
