Vladimir Putin is “inspecting” Nazi Germany’s fascism, Ben Wallace will say Monday – as the Russian president holds a massive military parade to boost his military efforts.
In a long speech, the defense minister will accuse Putin of “kidnapping history” and insulting the memory of fallen Soviet forces during the annual Victory Day parade marking the defeat of Adolf Hitler’s army.
“Through his invasion of Ukraine, Putin, his inner circle and generals are now reflecting on the fascism and tyranny of 70 years ago, repeating the mistakes of the totalitarian regimes of the last century,” Wallace said.
Speaking at the National Army Museum, the defense minister will also accuse senior army officers of such incompetence that they must face a military court.
“Let us recall the absurdity of Russian generals – magnificent in their manicure uniforms and heavy with many medals – for being fully complicit in Putin’s abduction of the proud history of their ancestors in defense of a ruthless invasion; to repel fascism; to sacrifice for a higher purpose, “said Wallace.
He would also add that the response to military failures on the ground in Ukraine was “a disgraceful act of self-preservation, a doubling of failure, anger, dishonesty and a scapegoat”.
Mr Wallace added: “All professional soldiers must be appalled by the behavior of the Russian army.
“Not only have they been involved in illegal invasion and war crimes, but their top officials have ruined their own rank and file to the point that they have to face military court.”
The speech will be delivered while Moscow organizes a lavish military parade in a show of force against Ukraine and NATO, including a demonstration of Putin’s so-called Doomsday plane.
The plane is designed to protect the Russian president and allow him to rule from the sky in the event of a nuclear attack. It is also able to issue its own nuclear strike order.
