Police have launched an investigation and are calling for witnesses after a severe M1 crash. This happened after a car left the north lane and crashed into a tree between intersections 21a and 22, near Leicester.
The incident happened shortly before 10.45 am on Sunday morning (May 8). The passengers in the black Ford Mondeo – driver and passenger – were taken to hospital for treatment.
The passenger – a woman – is in danger of death. The driver’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, Leicestershire police have confirmed.

The M1 was closed in both directions, but all lanes are open on both lanes. Drivers were asked to deviate. Detectives appealed to all witnesses to appear as part of their ongoing investigation.
Detective Charlotte Wright of the Serious Clashes Investigation Division, SCIU, said: “Our investigation into this incident continues and I would like to thank the drivers for their patience as we conduct further investigations.
“I want to talk to anyone who was traveling on the highway this morning and saw the collision. I also have a special desire to talk to anyone who has a DVR in their vehicle, who has not yet stepped forward, or who has seen the black Ford Mondeo before the collision.
