An investigation has been launched after a man died after a collision in Gateshead.
Shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday, police received a report of an overturned vehicle on the Lobby Hill walkway at the roundabout above A1. Officers and emergency services arrived on the scene and found a driver trapped in a white Renault Megane.
The 23-year-old driver was released from the car and taken to hospital, but has since died. His close relatives are supported by specialists in this tragic moment.

An investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances of the clash, and police are appealing to all witnesses, especially anyone who may have a camera recording, to appear.
PC Mark Lennox, of the Northumbria Police Motor Patrol Department, called on anyone who had witnessed the collision or who had information that could help the ongoing investigation to come out.
He said: “This is an incredibly tragic incident and our thoughts are on the man’s family and friends at the moment.
“An investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances of the clash and we ask anyone who has not yet spoken to us to contact us, especially if you are traveling in the area and may have some information that could help our inquiries.
“We also ask that the privacy of the family be respected as they try to come to terms with what happened.
