Police have launched an investigation after part of a man’s body was washed on a beach in Great Yarmouth.

A fisherman made the grim discovery near Wellington Pier in the early hours of May 4 last week.

Officials performed DNA tests on the body and found that it belonged to Colin Wood, 53, who lives in the city.

They have launched an investigation into his death, which they are currently treating as inexplicable.

Detectives say Mr Wood has had limited contact with family and friends in recent months and are seeking information from anyone who knows him.

They released a photo of Mr. Wood in the hope that it could move someone’s memory.

Police were called to the scene around 1:30 a.m. last Wednesday.

They found the remains, which were taken to James Paget University Hospital in Gorlston.

The post-mortem inspection by the Home Office was completed and Mr Wood’s family was informed.

Chief Detective Holly Evans, who is leading the investigation, said: “We want to know how Mr. Wood got into the water and we would like to hear from anyone who may know him or have information that could help with our investigations. .

“We know that Mr. Wood lived in the Great Yarmouth area. He has had limited contact with friends and family in recent months, and as a result we released a photo of Mr. Wood in the hope that it might help someone remember if he had seen it.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Great Yarmouth CID at 101, citing incident reference number 34/27025/22 or through the Norfolk Police website.
