US howitzers began firing on Russian positions, while Ukrainian troops received jammers to shoot down enemy reconnaissance drones.
The latest shipment of Western weapons to arrive in Ukraine includes the M777, a relatively light and maneuverable 155mm howitzer manufactured by the US division of BAE Systems with a maximum range of 25 miles.
Defense experts believe that any country that is able to combine artillery fire with drones more effectively will have a significant advantage in the Donbass, a coal-mining region in eastern Ukraine that has become a major theater of war. Reconnaissance drones are used to reconnoiter enemy targets, which are then hit by artillery.
