The 21-year-old BBC actor died along with a friend, a 34-year-old, after speeding, the driver “lost control” and crashed into a tree

A BBC actor has died in an accident after a speeding driver “lost control” and crashed into a tree, an investigation has revealed. Flight Jarvis suffered numerous “incurable” injuries as a result of the crash in Delphi, Oldham.

The 21-year-old was a front-seat passenger in a Mazda 3 when she stepped off a country road and hit a tree before throwing herself into an embankment. Reiss was pronounced dead at the scene while driver Carl Young was taken to hospital, where he later died.

Mr Young, 34, lost control of the vehicle while speeding on a remote and unlit section of the road at around 8.40pm, an investigation into the Rochdale Coroner’s Court said today. The two were returning to Oldham after visiting a fish shop in Marsden, West Yorkshire, on November 10 last year.

After leaving Huddersfield Road, Mr. Young’s Mazda crashed into a tree before continuing down the embankment in the field, leaving the two men trapped. The passer-by dialed 999 and emergency services arrived on the scene. Mr Young was pulled from the vehicle and taken to hospital, but Reiss died at the scene in Saddleworth.

Police Sergeant Neil Pennington of GMP’s Serious Clashes Investigation Department said at the hearing that analysis of the vehicle’s airbag module showed that Mazda was traveling at 110 mph just seconds before the crash – more than double the 50 limit. miles per hour. At the moment the car hit the tree, it was moving at 58 miles per hour, he added.

PS Pennington told the hearing that officers inspected the vehicle and found no “significant defects” that could have contributed to the crash. He said there was no evidence to suggest that other vehicles were involved in the accident.

“At the speed at which they drive, if something happens or they lose control, it will be very difficult for them to regain control of this vehicle,” concluded PS Pennington.

A post-mortem examination by pathologist Dr Abdul Gandhifroqwala revealed the cause of Reiss’s death as “multiple fatal injuries as a result of a traffic accident”. Toxicology results show that Mr. Young was not harmed by alcohol or drugs during the crash.

The investigation said Reiss and Mr. Young had been friends for about six years and had worked together at Grill No. 20 in downtown Oldham at the time of their deaths. Mr. Young owned the restaurant while Reiss was the bar manager.

Race from Beach Avenue, Oldham, previously worked as a television actor and starred in the 2017 crime drama “Killed to Be Different”, which is based on the murder of Sophie Lancaster in Bacup. Reiss’s father, Daryl, told the court that his son had auditioned for other roles, as well as training as a barber as a “reserve position”.

In a statement, Mr Jarvis described his son as “the life and soul of the party”, recalling his love of music and how he would write and compose his own songs. He described how Reiss’s death had a “terrible effect” on his health and said he had suffered a stroke since.

Assistant Investigator Michael Salt concluded that Reiss had died in a “road crash”. He added: “This case again highlights the dangers of speeding.

“On this occasion, a very talented and loyal young man lost his life and the only explanation we have is the loss of control of the vehicle due to excessive speed.” An investigation into Mr Young’s death is due on Wednesday.
