Two men were left with potentially life-threatening injuries after the scaffolding attached to the town hall collapsed in west London.
Dozens of police, firefighters and ambulances were at Hammersmith City Hall on King Street after they were notified of the incident shortly before 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.
The Sofia police announced that the men were taken to a central London hospital and the executive director of health and safety was notified.
A spokesman for the London ambulance said an air ambulance was among the resources sent to the scene and the men had been taken to a major trauma center “as a matter of priority”.
The force told MyLondon: “An investigation has been launched after two men were injured after the scaffolding attached to Hammersmith City Hall collapsed late Wednesday afternoon.
“Officers from the Sofia police were present together with firefighters.
The Hammersmith and Fulham Council said the incident took place on a construction site operated by Ardmore Construction Ltd, where work is underway.
Twitter says: “King Street (W6) is temporarily closed to drivers between Dalling Rd and Hammersmith Broadway.
“Emergency services are taking care of an incident in the area.
“Please avoid King St and the surrounding area where possible.
“We will update after King St reopens.”
