A 21-year-old man, who detectives say is known to the 43-year-old, was arrested shortly after on suspicion of killing York Road, a short distance from Radway Road. Police and forensic scientists appear to have focused their efforts on an apartment building next to a car wash.

One man told ECHO that he saw “armed police” disembark on York Road around 9 a.m. this morning, he said “many police officers” were also at the scene. Other people confirmed that there was a large police presence on York Road for about an hour this morning.

Staff at the UK’s Super Shine car wash, located at the intersection of Longview Drive and York Road, said police were on the scene for about an hour around 9am today. They said there were “loads” of policemen on the road and “a man was arrested in the apartments”.

Ms. Cullen is said to have a young daughter of primary school age who lives with her on the property, as well as an older son and an older daughter.

A woman who lived near the Radway Road scene told ECHO: “It was just after all the children had gone to school. The police came and several people gathered outside. I heard she was dead.

“The ambulances came, but they didn’t let anyone in. I didn’t know her well, but she was a wonderful person. I went when the little one was playing in the garden and talked to her. She was playing outside on a trampoline last night. “

Detectives in white protective suits could be seen coming and going from the property this morning as detectives conducted door-to-door investigations. Another neighbor told ECHO: “She was a beautiful looking girl, it’s devastating, absolutely devastating. She was nimble, I didn’t know her well, but she was beautiful.

“I just heard the police just before nine this morning and I ran away, they were cut off from the road. The ambulance came and they went inside, but they didn’t take anyone out.”

Detective Inspector Laura Lamping said: “We can confirm that a 40-year-old woman unfortunately died this morning after an accident at a house in Houghton. Although an arrest has been made, we are at a very early stage of the investigation as we seek to establish what happened at the address.
