A deputy identified after a fatal crash with an 18-wheeled SH-249 car says HCSO

HARRY DISTRICT – The deputy sheriff of Harris County has died after being involved in an accident with an 18-wheeled car on SH-249 on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

HCSO Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the deputy as 27-year-old Harris County-born Robert Adam Howard. Howard was a graduate of Cypress Woods High School.

Gonzalez said the deputy was a member of HCSO’s gang department and started working at the sheriff’s office two years ago.

He was also the husband and father of a 2-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son.

It is alleged that the MP hit the 18-wheeled car, which was parked on the side of the highway.

Another deputy, who was on a motorcycle, was also reportedly injured while helping a motorcade transporting the first deputy to the hospital, officials said. It is alleged that this deputy has life-threatening injuries.

The initial crash occurred in the northern lanes of SH-249 before Spring Cypress. The second happened nearby at block 26900 on I-45 North and Woodlands Parkway.

Howard was pronounced dead at the Herman Memorial in The Woodlands.
