Surrey swarming attack: Dozens gather in support of the victim

Dozens of people gathered in Surrey on Sunday morning to show support for the teenager who was brutally beaten last weekend.

“This is happening too much in this city and it needs to stop,” Thomas Smith told CTV News.

Smith is a member of BC Whiskey Wizards, the men’s metal health band that organized the event.

“It’s ridiculous, little girls are in front of their schools outside of schools or they’re set up that way, it shouldn’t happen again,” Smith said.

The incident, which was recorded and posted on social media, took place last Saturday at Hillcrest Elementary.

The video of the attack heard a girl shouting, “Go, go, go, hit her,” while the victim was hit and kicked. The victim, who is in 9th grade, can be heard crying and repeatedly saying that he is sorry.

Despite her apologies, the teenage girls continue to attack the victim, chasing her as she tries to escape.

They take her to the corner and make her kiss their shoes.

“I tore inside to watch my daughter go through all the things she went through,” said the victim’s father.

The family of the 15-year-old girl said she was left with a broken nose, black eyes and scratches and bruises all over her body.

Her mother says the harassment has not stopped.

“To this day, the only girl is still harassing my daughter online,” the mother said. “She posted pictures of my daughter bleeding and beaten.”

The victim was present on Sunday as dozens of vehicles drove down 176 Street in support, with many coming out to hug the young girl.

“It just gives me hope that she can get through this,” her mother said of the support.

Surrey RCMP says a young man who was specifically identified as the aggressor in the incident was arrested and later released on bail with a future trial date.

Both the RCMP and the victim’s family are encouraging parents who can recognize their child in the video to come out.

“As a parent, how are you not disgusted with your child?” Said the victim’s mother.

“You have to be responsible for what your children do”
