The takeover of Warner Bros. Games on the formula of Smash Bros., MultiVersus, adds three more characters to its crossover list: the Tasmanian Devil (also known as Taz) from Looney Tunes, Velma from Scooby-Doo and the Iron Giant from the heart-wrenching animated film of the same name. Please, I don’t want to fight the Iron Giant, Warner Bros.
A new movie trailer heralds the arrival of these new characters, along with previously confirmed MultiVersus fighters Batman, Bugs Bunny, Harley Quinn, Shaggy, Steven Universe Grenade and Game of Thrones Arya Stark. The Iron Giant even manages to meet Superman in this trailer, which remains bitter in some ways.
Monday’s new MultiVersus trailer coincides with the announcement of an open beta for a four-player brawler this July. This will be preceded by a closed alpha test for MultiVersus, which will take place from 19 to 27 May. Interested players can register for a place in the closed alpha on the official MultiVersus website.
MultiVersus was announced in November. Warner Bros. Games and developer Player First Games hope to differentiate MultiVersus from similar games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, releasing the game as a free 2v2 team-based game. The companies also promise full support for cross-gaming – MultiVersus comes for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X – and “dedicated server code return and content-filled seasons.”
