Men appear in court on three separate murders in Merseyside

Three men have appeared in court today on charges of individual killings as Merseyside communities are rocked by a series of murders.

In the last week alone, four murder investigations have been launched in the region, with arrests in a number of cases. This morning, men accused of committing two of those murders were on trial. Mark Wheeler appeared before magistrates in a court accused of killing Karen Wheeler at their home in Birkenhead on May 11.

Officers rushed to a flat block of Vittoria Close in Birkenhead around 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, following reports of concern for a woman’s well-being. After police and paramedics arrived, they found Karen, 62, and she died on the spot. Wheeler, 51, was not invited to plead guilty to murder, and his case was sent to Liverpool’s Royal Courts of Justice later this week.

In a separate court, Jeffrey Kelly was tried for his first appearance after being charged with the murder of Derek Burns, who died four days before Karen Wheeler’s death. Mr Burns was found dead in an apartment at 87 Newsham Drive in Tuebrook. Kelly, 56, lives in an apartment in the same building and was later charged with murder.

A woman who had lived next to Mr Burns for several years paid tribute to her neighbor, whom she described as “very kind and polite”. She told ECHO: “He was a very helpful person who did our garden for us, he always came to talk and we helped him with furniture for his apartment. Always a very nice and polite person who always smiled on his face. I’m just shocked by what happened. “

In addition to Wheeler and Jeffrey, another man was brought to Liverpool’s magistrates’ court on charges of killing his father, Michael Tuhy, in downtown Liverpool last month. Mr Tuhi, 18, was beaten to death in front of a London London internet café on Saturday (April 16th).

Michael’s family later paid tribute to their “kind, caring and brave” son, while his girlfriend Rihanna Draper said he had made her “the happiest girl alive” in heartbreaking respect. Public tribute was also paid for the future father, many of whom left flowers near the stage.

Anthony Williams, 31, of Hillbrook Drive in Walton, was arrested with another man yesterday and later charged with the murder of Mr Tuhy. He will also appear before a judge at Liverpool’s Royal Courts later this week.

A 33-year-old man with no permanent address, who was also arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder, has been released on parole. A 34-year-old woman from Fazakerli remains on bail after her arrest last month on suspicion of helping an offender.
