EU considers waging trade war “against troubled Brexit lawmakers and Tory ministers”

The European Union is considering a targeted trade war against troubled Brexit lawmakers and Tory ministers, sources told The Telegraph as the bloc considered its response to Boris Johnson’s plan to repeal the Northern Ireland Protocol.

A senior diplomatic source said Brussels had negotiated potential repression, including a plan to pit the prime minister’s political allies against him if he fulfilled his threat to sever the Brexit withdrawal agreement.

Under the plan, which is still at an early stage, British products produced in Red Wall constituencies, as well as those with elected cabinet ministers and vocal Brexit supporters, are facing crippling trade tariffs in hopes of creating enough pressure to force Mr. Johnson to turn back.

A senior EU diplomat told The Telegraph: “This is a long-standing practice of [European] The Commission should focus its trade defense policy to avoid unintended effects and support policy objectives. “

Nissan cars, Cadbury chocolate, Heinz ketchup, JCB tractors and Jaguar Land Rover vehicles could be affected by tariff increases as part of a response from Brussels.

The same tactic was used by the bloc in a trade dispute with Donald Trump, the former president of the United States, during which Brussels turned to Levi’s jeans, Harley-Davidson motorcycles and bourbon whiskey with criminal trade tariffs.
