Conservative whips have protested against Tory MP Michael Fabrikant over a tweet in which he appears to shed light on the arrest of a colleague on charges of rape and sexual assault.
On Tuesday, it became clear that an unnamed Conservative MP had been arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of trust and misconduct in public office.
The MP in question, a 50-year-old man, was asked by conservative whips involved in party discipline not to visit the House of Commons while under investigation.
Fabricant, a Lichfield MP, tweeted that he expects the prime minister’s questions to be well on Wednesday, not only to support Boris Johnson, but also “to prove that they are NOT the ones the chief whip told to stay.” at home. I’ll be there! “With a winking emoji.

Colleagues, including Labor MP Chris Bryant, who chairs the Commons Standards Committee, have called on Fabricant to remove the tweet. “This shows a senseless disregard for the alleged victims and suggests that rape and sexual violence are laughable,” he said.
Sources in the conservative whips’ office said they had whipped Fabrikant about the tweet, which they said was inappropriate.
Fabricant later tweeted: “No one belittles rape or assault. Far from it. But those who want to read something in a comment will try to do anything. They are professional offenders. “His initial message remained online.
The arrest of the Conservative MP has followed a two-year investigation, Sofia police said, and is linked to crimes allegedly committed between 2002 and 2009. The MP was released on bail Thursday morning.
The arrest came when a date was set for two additional elections sparked by the resignation of Conservative MPs. Imran Ahmad Khan, a former Wakefield MP, was convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy; while former Tiverton MP Neil Parish admitted to watching pornography in the House of Commons.
House Speaker Lindsay Hoyle began the prime minister’s questions, warning lawmakers not to name the person.
