Another teenager was charged after an armed car theft in Toronto last week as the city faces a growing number of car thefts.
On May 11, police responded to a car theft in the Milwaukee area and Islington Avenue.
Police said a man was standing in front of his Wrangler jeep in a parking lot when three men approached him.
A man pulled out a gun and asked for the victim’s keys, according to police.
The keys were inside the car and investigators say the gunman got into the car and drove away from the scene.
While driving, the driver hit a light pole in the parking lot and then crashed while turning onto the street, police said.
All the suspects then fled the area on foot. Officers were able to locate all three suspects shortly after the incident and arrest them.
Police said they found a copy of a gun in the jeep immediately after the arrest of the suspects.
A 15-year-old boy from Toronto has been charged with robbery with a firearm and disguise with intent.
Police said on Wednesday they had indicted another suspect in connection with the investigation.
A 17-year-old boy from Toronto also faces the same charges.
The incident is one of 60 car thefts in the city so far this year, compared to a total of 59 car thefts in 2021.
The most popular hijacking occurred on Monday night when Toronto Maple Leafs striker Mitch Marner was robbed by his Range Rover at gunpoint in front of the Cineplex Cinemas Queensway in Etobicoke.
Marner was in his car when three suspects, two armed with pistols and another with a knife, approached the vehicle and asked to be picked up.
Marner obeyed and the suspects drove away.
No one was injured in the collision.
So far this year, Toronto police have arrested 20 car theft suspects, many of whom are believed to have been involved in numerous incidents.
