Police are investigating two car thefts in Toronto in one hour

Toronto police are investigating a possible link between two car thefts in North York and Scarborough on Wednesday afternoon.

The first incident occurred in the area of ​​Alfred Avenue and Longmore Street, north of Shepard Avenue East, shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Police said the suspects stopped in two cars and one of them brandished a gun. They stole a white Lexus IS 250 AMDT 138 and fled the scene.

No casualties were reported.

An hour later, police reacted to another theft of a car 18 kilometers in the area of ​​Shepard Avenue East and Ecopark Gate.

Police said two suspects driving a white car approached a man at gunpoint and took his black Toyota Rav 4.

They went by jeep. Police said no one was injured.

“These appear to be the same suspects as the previous robbery,” police said.

No suspicious information has been disseminated.

The two incidents are the latest in a series of car thefts reported in the city this week. As of Tuesday afternoon, Toronto police said they had responded to 60 car thefts, surpassing the 59 incidents they investigated in 2021.

Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner was the victim of a car theft in Etobico on Monday night, with suspects stealing his Range Rover.

He posted a statement on Twitter calling the incident terrible.
