Nine people have been admitted to hospital after a bus crashed into a wall in east London on Wednesday afternoon.

Metropolitan police said they were called at 1:55 p.m. to signal that a bus had hit a wall on the main road in Romford.

Employees and the London Ambulance (LAS) were also present. A bus left the road at the scene of the accident and crashed into a perimeter wall.

A LAS spokesman said 15 people had been treated at the scene.

“We took five of these patients to the hospital, and another patient also got to the hospital.

“The other nine patients were checked and discharged at the scene,”

Matt police said none of the injuries were considered life-threatening as they awaited further updates.

Gary Jennings, a 56-year-old fire alarm engineer from Dagenham, told Standard he was working on Manor Road when he heard a “really loud” noise that “sounded like a truck going through bumps”.

He went outside to look and said he saw “a lot of dust and bricks everywhere.”

Mr Jennings helped hit passengers, including a man in his wheelchair, off the bus, which he said crashed into the wall he hit.

“He had already been thrown out of his wheelchair on the bus, so I helped him and a few others.”

The bus also knocked down a tree and there were fears that someone was trapped under it.

Mr Jennings said there were students and retirees on the bus, which was “about a third full” at the time of the crash.

“The bus driver was still in his cab, awake, but there was blood and glass everywhere. There was a man in charge of him at the time.

“There was a lady with a cut lip, I think a lot of people were just shaken.

“They were walking around like a zombie movie, not knowing what really happened, they were just a little shocked.”

Borders and closures remain in force and local traffic delays are expected.

Motorcyclists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

The metropolitan is asking anyone who has witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police to come out.
