YouTube is introducing a new video activity schedule for all videos, which will show the most busy moments in each upload based on when users play segments.
Originally reviewed last October and released to select creators, the graphic will help users find the most relevant sections of each YouTube video.
According to YouTube:
“The tops of the graphics show the parts of the video that have been played the most, and the graphics will only appear if the user starts searching. In our experiments, we found that viewers like this feature, with 85% of users liking the option.
This can be especially useful for longer videos or tutorials that take some time to get to the bottom of it. If you’re stuck in a particular item you need help with, there are probably others, and this will probably be the point of the video with the highest engagement, making it easier to skip and find.
Although from the creators’ point of view, this can also affect the viewing time, as users already have a new way to browse and find specific elements of each video. Various creators have raised this concern since the beginning of the test, and YouTube says the presence of video graphics in its experiments has not reduced viewing time. At least so far.
It may be worth keeping track of your statistics as more users gain access to this feature.
YouTube is also introducing support for video chapters for smart TVs and game consoles, providing another way for people to find specific sections in the video.
On the other hand, YouTube has also added a new tool in YouTube Studio that allows creators to see which automatically translated captions are used the most in their videos.
This will help creators figure out which languages are best for their audience, which can then help them focus on which translations to focus on in their own caption uploads, while providing a better idea of the audience. which you reach with your videos.
You can find the new translation report in the Audience section or in the subtitle report in the advanced analysis.
Finally, YouTube also increased the maximum cost of a monthly channel membership to $ 499 – up from $ 99 before.
So now, if you have really dedicated, really committed fans, you can increase the cost of your membership by more than 5 times the previous limit. It is also significantly higher than Twitch’s current pricing for members.
Are people really willing to pay $ 499 a month for a channel subscription? We’ll find out, but YouTube notes that this is a requested update.
Here are some interesting notes that could affect your approach to YouTube, and again, it’s worth keeping track of your performance metrics to see if these new segmentation and skimming options reduce overall viewing time – and thus engagement statistics.
