Environment Canada has issued a signal of a strong thunderstorm for the London area, calling for strong winds and rains. Heavy rains began before noon, with many Londoners turning to social media to report property damage and fallen trees on the roads.

One such report notes that a small plane at London airport overturned.

Power outages have also been reported in several neighborhoods in the city, including Byron, Lambeth and Huron Heights in northeast London. At 3pm on Saturday, London Hydro reported 100 outages affecting more than 500 people in the city.

Authorities called on the public to be vigilant around areas with fallen trees and power lines.

“There are power outages and traffic lights in the city. “Don’t forget to treat intersections as a 4-way stop if the traffic lights are off,” City Hall officials wrote on Twitter.

Canada’s environmental forecast for the rest of Saturday predicts rain at night to pass at low temperatures of 9 C.

There was also a 60% chance of rain on the Sunday before a sunny day on Monday and a high of 17 C to end the long weekend for Victoria Day.
