Kate McKinnon bids farewell to the Saturday Night Live Cold Open finale

As a sign that perhaps the departing stars of “Saturday Night Live” are returning to their biggest hits as they go out, this week’s cold opening included a wild farewell for at least two of them. For Kate McKinnon, this meant her fan-abducted alien, Mrs. Rafferty, who once again shared an extremely inappropriate experience with NSA officers played by Eddie Bryant and Mikey Day.

After demonstrating his experience, McKinnon, like Mrs. Rafferty, went into space after a final farewell. This obviously doubled as a farewell to McKinnon. “I still felt like an alien on this planet,” the hero said. “Well, Earth, I love you, thank you for letting me stay for a while. Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!

The video began with Bryant and Day and continued with applause – clearly aimed at Bryant, who is also leaving after this episode.

McKinnon has played Mrs. Rafferty in several episodes over the years, usually smashing guest hosts in the process – like Ryan Gosling in 2015. Here’s the opening on Saturday night:

Russian Doll star Natasha Lyon has been selected to host the season finale of Saturday Night Live on May 21, marking her debut as a presenter.

“I have a show called ‘Russian Doll,’ the second season of ‘Russian Doll’ has just premiered on Netflix,” she said. “And two things you definitely want to be connected to right now are Russia and Netflix!” This is my first time hosting and I am sincerely humbled to be here. The truth is, I feel a cosmic connection in SNL. The people here in my real life have chosen a family that I have come here since I was a teenager. ”

Then Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph joined Lyon on stage.

“We met Freddie for seven years. We had the only sex tape that no one wanted to buy, “she joked.

Lyon then shared her career: “My parents get this great idea that I have a future in show business,” she said. “So I’m starting an audition. It turns out that many casting directors are looking for the type “Little Orphan Annie, who speaks like Didi Ramon.”

She then performed one of her first concerts as a child: Pee-wee’s Playhouse.

“I do a little TV, my mother and I moved to the Upper East Side. Suddenly I’m in the movies, oh, and all those 90’s movies – “American Pie”, “American Pie 2”, “American Pie: The Multiverse of Madness”. The cult favorite “But I’m a Cheerleader.” Things are going great and then, hammer-hammer. Who’s there? Lots of arrests and drug addiction! Oh, yes, I went to hell and back. Life was rough. But just like when Fabio was on that roller coaster ride and a bird flew in his face – and we have a picture of that – I jumped back and went back to riding.

“But I’m here and I’ll tell you what I found. There is always hope and despair. And there’s always a reason to go back to the ring and fight another day. ” Watch Lyon’s monologue here:

Japanese Breakfast, the indie rock pseudonym used by Michelle Sauner, was to serve as a musical guest at the finale.

Before the episode, information was leaked (as Variety first reported) that Pete Davidson, Eddie Bryant, Kate McKinnon and Kyle Mooney are expected to leave SNL after this season 47 finale.

On Saturday, Davidson wrote a farewell message via a friend and Instagram to Saturday Night Live writer Dave Cyrus. “It’s crazy to think I’m going to do my last thing today,” he said. “I have to share so much with this audience and literally grow before your eyes. We were together through the good and the bad, the happiest and the darkest times. I owe my life to Lorne Michaels and everyone on SNL. ” (Read the full text here.)

Lyon is the co-creator, executive producer, director and star of the comedy-drama series “Russian Doll”, which debuted with its second season on Netflix on April 20. In Season 2, Nadia (Lyon) and Alan (Charlie Barnett) are transported to different versions of the past, forced to make sense of their family stories.

Lyon is also set to star and executive producer of Poker Face, an upcoming mystery drama created by Ryan Johnson for Peacock. This is also the first time of a Japanese Breakfast at SNL. She is currently touring North America in support of her Jubilee album, released last June.

Selena Gomez made her home debut last week. Previous hosts of Saturday Night Live this season include Lizo, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jerod Carmichael, Zoe Kravitz, Oscar Isaac, John Muleney, Willem Defoe and Will Forte.
