Police and the RSPCA are investigating after a driver posted on social media that he had just witnessed a minibus driver intentionally run over a family of ducks and ducklings crossing the road. The publication went viral in the last 24 hours today (May 21st), prompting both police and the RSPCA to say they are investigating the incident.
The publication contained disgusting images of three of the ducks that were crushed and killed by the wheels of the van when the driver was allegedly overtaken by a queue of traffic that stopped to allow them to cross the A34 at the Trentham Gardens roundabout in the south. of Stoke. Stephen Wally wrote in a Facebook post asking people to share: “I was just driving an A34 at the Trentham Gardens roundabout when a family of seven ducks crossed the road.
“All traffic stopped to allow them to cross, but disgusting this minibus driver, after initially stopped, couldn’t wait the five seconds that would take him to let them cross, and drive directly over them, crushing three of them. ”Mr Wally said he then followed the van to a nearby bar, where he had what he described as a“ very heated conversation ”with the driver.

Police said they were trying to establish whether violations had been committed under the Wildlife Act. A statement from Staffordshire police said: “We are aware of a report circulating to a minibus driver believed to have killed a duckling in Trentham. We contacted the author of the publication and identified potential violations of the Wildlife and Rural Areas Act.
“We understand that this is an emotional issue for many people and we ask that you do not take matters into your own hands,” he added. The RSPCA also tweeted a response to the publication. “We understand that the police are investigating this shocking incident. We urge anyone who has first-hand information to contact the local police on 101 or on our cruelty line on 0300 1234 999. Our phone lines are very busy at the moment, so we apologize if there is a delay “they said.
