The Campbell family wants the killer behind bars

The Campbell family says they continue to fight for justice for their mother, Fanny Campbell.

Donald Wayne Campbell was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of 45-year-old Fanny Campbell in January 1998 and sentenced to life in prison, with full parole after 25 years. He is currently serving a minimum security sentence in Ontario.

Joel Campbell, who was 18 at the time of the murder, said the family was seeking public support as they appealed to the Canada Early Release Council to refuse his father’s parole.

“It’s just a day or a week for us, it’s not just a hearing or this week,” Campbell said. “This is something our family has been living with for almost a quarter of a century, 24 years. We had to deal with what happened, we had to deal with the fact that he refuses to take responsibility for what happened, he has not offered any apologies to his children to this day. This is a great irony in many ways, while he is the one with a life sentence, we are the ones who will bear the greater burden if he is released in the community.

Don Campbell applied for both unaccompanied temporary leave and parole.

“So the parole for the day will allow him to move to another part of Canada, not a prison, but a house halfway through and out in the community at certain hours,” Joel said. “That includes the possibility of him being in southwestern Ontario.”

In a Facebook post, Joel, his brother Brent and sister Alicia called on members of the Sarnia-Lambton community and across the province to contact local lawmakers and express concerns about the potential release of Don Campbell.

“This will be Marilyn Gladu here, but with the wider dissemination of the publication, other MPs may also participate. It could be one of the MPs in London or one of the MPs in Windsor, because this is a matter of concern if we have a serious offender, a first-degree murderer who has not taken responsibility for his crimes in the community. We just want people to be aware of that. “

The virtual parole hearing is scheduled for Thursday, May 26.

Don Campbell’s denial of early parole in 2018 was denied.
