Russia has said its military has destroyed a large unit in Ukraine.
Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said on Thursday that the country’s military planes had struck the eastern region’s Pokrovsk railway station as an assault brigade landed there to reinforce Ukrainian troops in the region.
He also claims that Russian forces have destroyed Ukraine’s electronic intelligence center in Dnipropetrovsk, although this cannot be confirmed independently.
Konashenkov said the Russian Air Force had struck 28 soldiers and arms concentrations and two ammunition depots in the past 24 hours.

Rodion Miroshnik, a representative of the separatist Luhansk region in Russia, also said that approximately 8,000 Ukrainian soldiers are being held captive in Donetsk and Luhansk. This also cannot be verified independently.
The Kremlin said on Thursday that it expects Ukraine to accept Moscow’s demands and “understand the real situation that exists de facto.”

Alternatively, in an intelligence update, the UK Ministry of Defense says the Russian airborne forces have been involved in several notable tactical failures since Russia’s February 24 invasion.
“VDV was used for missions more suitable for heavier armored infantry and suffered heavy casualties during the campaign. His mixed performance is likely to reflect the strategic mismanagement of this capability and Russia’s failure to secure air superiority, the statement said.
To date, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has registered 8,628 civilian casualties in Ukraine.

That number includes 3,974 deaths and 4,654 injuries, but the OHCHR said it believed the actual figures were “significantly higher”.
