A four-year-old boy died in a tragic accident while riding his new motorcycle, an investigation has revealed. Jacob Gamlin Turner of Cefn Fforest Avenue in Blackwood, Caerphilly, died on May 5, 2021, after a children’s motorcycle he was riding collided with a fence on a playground near his home.
An investigation at Gwent Coroner’s Court in Newport on Tuesday (May 31st) found that Jacob “had a love of sports and the outdoors” and had a particular passion for motorcycles, which he rode from an early age after being inspired by his older brother. . On the afternoon of May 4, 2021, Jacob was taken to the Britannia Playing Fields in Cefn Fforest with his father Ross Turner, grandfather and friend. A statement investigating the collision, read by senior coroner Caroline Saunders, said Jacob’s father had chosen the playing field he considered a safe and secure place for Jacob to ride his new bike for the first time. The court heard that Jacob had been treated in hospital for a number of traumatic injuries, including significant head injuries, blood in the mediastinum, rib fractures and sprains, and underwent computed tomography. Hours later, Ms. Saunders said doctors told Jacob’s parents that their son’s injuries had not survived, and he died at about 12:40 a.m. on May 5, 2021, at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital in Wales.
