Langford revoked Danbrook One’s residence permit for 2766 Claude Rd. in December 2019 and called on tenants to move out after an engineering report for the municipality confirmed serious safety concerns.

An engineer from British Columbia was banned from the profession and fined because a high-rise building he designed in Langford, British Columbia, was so dangerous that the residence permit had to be revoked.

Engineers and Geoscientists BC, the profession’s regulatory body, says Brian McClure acknowledged in an order for consent that the structural drawings of the 11-story building were insufficient.

The statement said that aspects of the seismic design of the building and the system for resistance to gravity did not correspond to the BC construction code, and “significant defects identified in the structural design drawings show incompetence.”

The residence permit was revoked for the 90-unit building, called Danbrook One, in December 2019, after an independent inspection by the city of Langford identified several safety concerns.

The statement said McClure’s registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC was revoked, he was fined $ 25,000 and agreed to pay $ 32,000 in court costs.

Units in the building, now renamed RidgeView Place, are returning to the rental market after the owner, Centurion Asset Management, announced in March that it was in the process of completing an upgrade to the building’s structural systems.
