Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers will fight Josh Allen and Patrick Mahoms in the sixth iteration of The Match on Wednesday night at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas. With four NFL star defenders ready to fight on a different kind of grass, the younger generation enters as outsiders, although that didn’t stop them from applauding Brady and Rodgers in the days before the race.
This will be the first edition of The Match – an extremely successful franchise to date – which does not include a professional golfer. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and Bryson Deschambo have played a significant role, as have Peyton Manning, Rodgers and Brady over the past few years. Mahoms and Allen are new to the party, but will certainly bring great viewership to the modified alternative shots match at 19:00 ET
This abbreviated version of the game of the match – only over 12 holes – has been used before and makes it a much more fun and entertaining event, especially considering that there will be no professional competition. Brady is a global junk talker, and as long as he can lure the younger boys into his traps, that should be great television. In addition, Charles Barkley will be among those in the broadcast, so golf can be horrible and the event is yet to be seen.
