Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy for allegedly threatening a school in Brampton

Police in Peel have filed charges against a teenager after threatening a school in Brampton on social media.

Police said they had been warned about “disturbing” social media reports on Wednesday.

They did not specify what was on the poles or the nature of the threat, but police said they were against a school in the Mississauga Road and Boward Drive area.

Police said on Thursday that a 17-year-old boy had been arrested and charged with threatening to cause death or personal injury. His identity cannot be revealed under the terms of the Juvenile Criminal Justice Act.

Police have warned they will investigate threatening social media posts and the perpetrators could be charged.

Similar incidents have been reported in several schools in the region in recent days. Police in Hamilton arrested and charged a 14-year-old girl Thursday after threatening a school.

They added that they are investigating more threats made in other schools in the city in addition to those reported on Wednesday.
