A huge police presence and an ambulance blocked a road in the city center as emergency services responded to concerns about the man’s well-being. Armed officers were also stationed at Maid Marian Way just before 11 a.m. Friday (June 3rd).
Nottinghamshire police have confirmed that a man has been detained as a result. The road was closed for hours and reopened at about 2 p.m.
Desperate shoppers and visitors to the city center spoke of their concerns on the “shocking scene”. Magda Temi and Alex Moshonas are two visitors from Greece who arrived in Nottingham an hour ago.

They passed the police cordon and 33-year-old Temi added: “It is certainly surprising. We’ve never been here before, but it’s pretty shocking to see. “
Ben Ide, who works in technology, added: “I’m definitely surprised. There’s an increased police presence, there are three other police cars.”
The 28-year-old added: “I’ve been living in Nottingham for 11 years and I’ve only seen something like this on a single scale. It’s quite ambiguous.”
Ken Grandi, a construction contractor in Nottingham, praised police and added: “I think they did the right thing. They did everything they could to keep public safety. “The 78-year-old added:” This is a big police scene, but they must have a good reason for it. “
A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “Police were called shortly before 11 a.m. this Friday at St. Nicholas Church in Maid Marian Way, Nottingham, after concerns were expressed about the man’s well-being. Acting with extreme caution, armed officers were sent to the scene and the road was closed in both directions.
“A man is currently in custody. No one was injured and the road is expected to be reopened and reopened soon.
