Ontario reported a decline in hospitalizations with COVID-19 on Saturday and the lowest revenue in intensive care since early August 2021.
There are 671 patients with the virus in Ontario hospitals, up from 865 a week ago, according to the Department of Health.
The province says that 107 of these patients are in the intensive care unit, which is a remarkable decrease from 144 this time a week ago and the lowest number of patients in the intensive care unit with the virus since August 3, 2021.
Health officials say 41% of hospitalized patients were admitted for virus-related reasons, while 59% were admitted for other reasons and tested positive for the virus.
For intensive care patients, 74% were taken to hospital for COVID-19-related reasons and 26% were admitted for other reasons and subsequently tested positive.
Meanwhile, the ministry reported 10 more virus-related deaths in the past month. Two of these people were placed in long-term care homes.
A total of 13,285 virus-related deaths have been reported in the province since March 2020.
Provincial laboratories have processed 9,829 tests in the last 24 hours, generating a 7.9 percent positive result, the ministry said.
The province also confirmed another 901 cases of COVID-19 today, but health officials say the daily number of cases continues to be underestimated due to limited access to PCR testing.
Among recent cases, 505 received three or four doses of vaccine, 163 received two doses, 97 were partially or unvaccinated, and 136 had unknown vaccination status.
Yesterday, health officials administered 14,204 doses of vaccine across the province.
To date, 90% of Ontario residents aged five and over have received a single dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 87% have received two doses, and 52% have received three doses.
The numbers used in this story are in the Ontario Department of Health’s daily epidemiological summary COVID-19. The number of cases for each city or region may differ slightly from that reported by the province, as local units report figures at different times.
