What to expect on WWDC 2022: iOS 16, macOS 13, watchOS 9 and possibly new Macs

The wait is finally almost over! Apple’s annual WWDC developer conference begins Monday with Apple’s opening speech at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, and while software is always the focus of the event, there’s certainly a chance for a hardware release or two.

As usual, we summarized everything we expect to see in Monday’s main report, some of which include the latest news highlighted below.

According to Mark German of Bloomberg, Apple intended to announce a new MacBook Air with the WWDC’s M2 chip this year, but performance may be delayed due to a blockage in China affecting production. On the other hand, Gourmet believes that a full-scale presentation of Apple’s long-talked-about AR / VR headphones is unlikely.

IOS 16 lock screen enhancements, redesigned Mac apps and more to come from WWDC

WWDC’s other expectations include Bloomberg’s “major improvements” to the iOS 16’s iPhone lock screen, such as widget-like wallpapers, along with redesigned Mac apps, and more.

It is reported that one of the built-in applications that will receive a redesign of macOS 13 will be System Preferences, which is expected to receive a major overhaul that will make it more similar to the Settings app on iPhone and iPad.

Apple is striving to make the iPad more like a Mac with iPadOS 16 multitasking changes

Another report from Gurman before WWDC claims that the iPadOS 16 will include a redesigned multitasking interface and the ability to resize on-screen application windows.

Multitasking enhancements should allow for a more Mac-like experience on the iPad, something many experienced users want. However, the extent of the changes remains to be seen.

Apple’s WWDC 2022 event page includes animated AR trading cards

Apple added WWDC 2022 to its event website this week, and if you visit the iPhone or iPad page, there’s a fun Easter egg with augmented reality.

For WWDC 2022, Apple has created a package of trading cards that you can see in augmented reality – there is even a rare card of Craig Federico. Once placed on the surface using the AR interface, you can tap the card pack to open it and see a set of colorful Memoji faces.

The iPhone 14 Pro is rumored to include an on-screen display mode

It is reported that iOS 16 will include support for future mode of the always-on display of the iPhone. This feature may debut exclusively on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max when they launch later this year.

Always-on display mode can cause iPhone 14 Pro models to constantly display information that can be viewed, such as time, and the refresh rate drops to 1 Hz to save battery life.

The iPhone 14 range is expected to start with increased 6 GB of RAM

All four iPhone 14 models, released later this year, will be equipped with 6 GB of RAM, according to Taiwanese research firm TrendForce.

TrendForce also said that the iPhone 14 Pro models will be upgraded to a faster and more energy efficient type of RAM known as LPDDR5, while the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max models are expected to stick to LPDDR4X as the range of iPhone 13.
