“I seem to have torn several ligaments,” Zverev said in an update

Alexander Zverev confirmed speculation that his injury was serious while returning to Germany for additional tests.

Zverev had to be pushed off the court by Philip Shatrie in a wheelchair after twisting his ankle at the end of the second set after falling behind 7-6 (10-8) 6-6 in his meeting with the Spaniard, who is chasing the record 14 Roland Garros title.

After admitting last night that the injury looked serious, he wrote a status on Instagram, in which he explained that he probably broke several ties. He said:

“Hey guys! Now I’m going home. Based on the first medical examinations, it seems that I have torn several lateral ligaments in my right leg. I will fly to Germany on Monday to do additional examinations and determine the best and fastest way to recover. I want to thank everyone around the world for the kind messages I received yesterday. Your support means a lot to me right now! “

If the initial scans turn out to be correct, he will certainly miss Wimbledon with probably an even longer recovery.
