Live Updates – Coventry Road in Small Heath Closes “in a Few Hours” After Serious Clash

A major city road was closed this afternoon after a “serious collision”. A pedestrian and a car are believed to have been involved in the incident, and photos taken by BirminghamLive show a blue tent at the scene.

Coventry Road in Small Heath was closed by police around 3pm after emergency services arrived on the scene. West Midlands police say the road between Small Heath Highway and Tennyson Road is likely to remain closed for several hours as it investigates.

A West Midlands police spokesman said: “We closed Coventry Road, Small Heath, after a serious collision with a pedestrian and a car around 3pm today. The road between Small Heath Highway and Tennyson Road is likely to remain closed for several hours while we make inquiries. “

The National Express West Midlands said: “Due to a collision on Coventry Road near Oldknow Road, service 60 is diverting through Small Heath Bypass and Golden Hillock Road in both directions. With the additional delay in Sheldon, we can expect a delay in the 60 service this afternoon. “

Inrix Traffic Management added: “Coventry Road is closed in both directions [with] very slow traffic due to accident investigation work between Tennyson Road and A45 Small Heath Highway. The road will probably remain closed in the afternoon. “

A spokesman for the West Midlands Fire Department confirmed that firefighters were not present. They contacted the West Midlands Ambulance Service for a response.
