News from Surrey: 1 suspect stabbed in Guildford Superstore, Walmart

Police believe two seemingly unprovoked stab wounds reported in stores in Surrey, British Columbia, were committed by the same woman in three days.

The woman has been in custody since her arrest over the weekend, Mountis said in a press release Monday.

The 33-year-old man, whose name will be made public only if the charges are approved, was arrested after stabbing Walmart on 152 Street on Saturday night.

Police said first aid officers were called to the store shortly before 9 pm and arrived to find a victim with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect has already left the scene, they said, but officials found the woman they believe was involved a little later and not far from the store.

The case is still under investigation, but police said Monday they believe the woman in custody may be behind another stabbing that occurred two days earlier at a grocery store near Walmart.

A woman was stabbed last Thursday while at the Real Canadian Superstore in the Guilford area.

The motives in the cases remain unclear. Police said both incidents seemed unprovoked.

None of the allegations have been proven in court, and the investigation is ongoing.

Calling the stabbing “embarrassing and violent incidents”, police thanked those who helped arrest the woman, including members of the mental health team.

Anyone with information on both cases has been asked to contact RMP at Surrey at 604-599-0502.
