Two roads in Ottawa are among the 10 worst in Ontario, according to the CAA’s annual Worst Roads campaign.
Carling Avenue is the fifth worst road in the province, according to a list released Tuesday. Bronson Avenue is the eighth worst.
Ontario residents vote in the annual campaign for roads in their communities. Criteria include traffic jams, potholes and poor signage. This year’s campaign nominated about 3,000 roads across the province.
Carling Avenue has appeared on the list many times over the years. It was voted the second worst road in Ontario last year and was voted the worst road in Ottawa for four years in a row.
Last year, Hunt Club Road ranked sixth and Innes Road was eighth on the Ontario list.
Barton Street in Hamilton topped the list this year, with Eglinton Avenue West in Toronto finishing second. Of the 10 worst roads, five are in the Greater Toronto area.
CAA breaks even the worst roads in municipalities. Here are the five worst in Ottawa this year:
- Carling Avenue
- Bronson Avenue
- Hunt Club Road
- Exit way
- Innes Road
The CAA says the campaign is helping to highlight where more work is needed and could help governments fund repairs and renovations.
“We know the campaign is working,” Jeff Walker, president and CEO of CAA North & East Ontario, said in a press release. “People are voting in the CAA’s annual campaign for the worst roads because it gives Ontario residents a platform to keep up the pressure on different levels of government to find out which roads they think need urgent repair.
Eighty percent of voters cite potholes as a reason for choosing roads, followed by poor road maintenance (71 percent) and lack or poor cycling infrastructure (29 percent).
