A man was seriously injured in Vaughan, Ont. shooting: police

A man is in critical condition in hospital after being shot in a car in front of Woodbridge Square on Thursday afternoon.

York Regional Police say they were called to a parking lot at the northwest corner of Highway 7 and Pine Valley Drive at 2:07 p.m. for reports of a man being shot in a vehicle.

They arrived to find a man with at least one gunshot wound.

He was rushed to a trauma center for treatment.

Investigators say they are looking for a suspect who fled the scene.

“I’ve heard that people don’t want to intervene, but if you have any information that will help us solve or reverse engineer what happened here, you need to go ahead and help us solve that,” said Sergeant Sergeant. That’s what David Mitchell told reporters at the scene. “Right now we sound like a broken record. But if you’ve seen something, if you have some information, you may have that little piece of the puzzle that you may find insignificant, but that can lead us in the right direction as far as what happened here.

Mitchell told reporters that the investigation into the shooting “is still in its infancy.”

He said forensic scientists were on the scene and looking for evidence.

He said investigators are also in contact with the property management company in charge of the square and hope several visible surveillance cameras may have captured the incident.

Meanwhile, uniformed men are conducting an operation in the area, hoping to find witnesses.

“We’re working on this scene as quickly as possible, but when it comes to forensic evidence, we only get one shot and one shot,” Mitchell said, noting that access to the square will likely be limited for the rest of the day.
