The search has been stopped for a missing Surrey man after renting a boat from Granville Island – British Columbia

The search has now ended for a 46-year-old Surrey man who rented a boat from Granville Island around noon on Wednesday. The Joint Rescue Coordination Center said the crews had been searching for 24 hours, but the file had already been handed over to Vancouver police as a missing person.

Vancouver police said the man was on his way to Bowen Island, and when he failed to return the chartered boat by 3 p.m., the navy was sent to help the Coast Guard and search and rescue boats.

The rental boat was found to be drifting near Point Atkinson, but there is no sign of the boat, police said.
